Prime Minister of Grenada, Dr Keith Mitchell said his government will not appeal the recent High Court pensions ruling.
The judgement reinstates public sector pension and retroactively establishes pension entitlement for public employees that entered the service after 1985.
However, while dropping the appeal option, Dr Mitchell is advocating public discourse on the matter expected to be a financial hurdle for the government.
His stance on the matter was made during a national address.
“We believe there are ways we can honor the intend of the judgement as it relates to the reinstatement of public pension,” he said. “Even while we seek to address going forward. Some of the inconsistencies and other aspects of the judgement that clearly we have seen. Government is committed to sitting down with all concerned who want to sit down.”
He said the best outcome will materialize from honest conversation.
“And that must include all stakeholders being engage because this is not only about the public workers, it’s about all the citizens of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique,” Dr. Mitchell said.
