Below is a statement by Deputy Commissioner of Police in Dominica, Lincoln Corbette on the shooting death of Kian Alexander and the search for Kernisha Etienne who was abducted from her home in Warner. It was made on the evening of June 18, 2022.
The search for Kernisha Etienne by the police has been relentless from the day she was abducted from her home by Kian Alexander on the 7th of June, 2022.
About 3:15 pm on the 18th of June, 2022, while searching in the Brookhill Estate, a police patrol team encountered Kian armed with a cutlass about three feet long.
The police attempted to apprehend him, he charged at the police with the cutlass .
The police took action to subdue him by shooting at his legs.
The police took immediate action to render first aid.
During that time ,he said certain things to the police as to the possible whereabouts of Kernisha Etienne.
As a result, the search has been intensified in the area to find Kernisha Etienne.
The ambulance and the district medical officer were summoned and he was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
We are soliciting all able body people to assist the police in the search for Kernisha Etienne.
I wish to commend all the officers, members of the public who have been relentless in searching for Kernisha.
We also wish to commend the public for the trust and confidence in the police.
Our main focus has been and remains the safe return of Kernisha Etienne to her family.
